Final Work Day #24 and the Home Dedication

Well, the finishing touches were put into place on July 19th. The house looked perfect in every way for the dedication the next day. Great job guys!

The dedication happened yesterday, July 20th at 5:00pm. The Ksor / Rcom Family had kind words of gratitude to all of the friends and volunteers that helped make this dream possible. The family was presented with several gifts: a Tool Kit, a Prayer Shawl, a Picture Album, and a Bible. See pictures below.

It was a fitting end to a great project. HUGE THANKS go to all of the vounteers that worked tireless hours to make this happen. We are thankful for how God has blessed individually through the project, and blessed this project itself. It was rewarding for us all to be able to show Christ’s love to others.

There was a good sized crowd there.

A tool kit was presented to the family to
help them take care of their new home.

We presented the homeowners with a chronological
picture album of the top 100 pictures from the
project.

The homeowners were also given a Bible.

get things started.

A "Prayer Shawl" was knitted by praying people
with caring hands, and presented to the family.

put on a great performance.

Work Day #23: “Clean Up and Touch Up”

What a great group of folks we had out today. There was a lot of touching up of paint, and cleaning and scraping of windows being done. The house looks absolutely fantastic! Thanks to everyone who came out to help. Check out some pictures from today below.

Work Day #22: “Landscaping”

There was another great turnout of volunteers today, and there was an awesome time of fellowship during the devotional to get things started. They made quick work of the fine grading and mulch - a huge thanks to Ronnie Chambers for coming out earlier this week to do the prep work (rough grading, bed edging and mulch deliveries). It's simply amazing to see how nicely and quickly this project has come together. See pictures from today below.

Work Day #21: “More Odds and Ends”

Work Day #19: “It’s a HOT One!”

We had a great group of folks come out today to work in the heat. Thanks to having so many folks come out, we were able to have people working on this house, and the Habitat house next door. Work Day #15: “Interior Trim”

We had another great work day today. Thanks to everyone who came out to help! We pretty much installed all of the interior trim today. We will all take this weekend off, and plan to meet back on Thursday, May 29th to do some interior painting. Check out the pictures from today below.

Work Day #14: “Siding Odds and Ends, and Sheetrock!”

The weather was beautiful once again. We have been so blessed with good weather. The finishing touches on the siding continue. Also, the sheetrockers started this morning. If all goes well, we should be ready to start interior trim this coming Thursday. Thanks to everyone who came out to work today!

Work Day #13: “More Siding”

We had an awesome day today, lots of folks came out to work on the siding. Once again the weather was perfect! Lots of fun today!

The inside is coming along. Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC,
and Sprinklers are roughed in. Inspections, insulation, and
a start on the sheetrock expected this week.

Work Day #11: “Roofing and Siding Continued”

God provided us with another beautiful work day. We had some of the staff from West Market Street United Methodist and Westover out today for our work day. The roofing is close to complete now. We also made some good progress on the siding. The siding work will continue on Saturday. Check out the pictures below.

Work Day #10: “Roofing and Siding”

We had a great turnout today, Saturday April 26. Lots of experienced people workers helped things progress well. It was another beautiful spring day, and our fearless construction leader (Matt) had everything lined up to keep all these folks busy. The roofing continues, and siding was being installed on three sides of the house at once today!

Work Day #9: “Roofing, Window/Doors, Siding Prep”

A BIG THANKS to our volunteers who came out today, Thursday April 24th. Many of these folks took off of work to be here – what dedication! The weather was picture-perfect. The roof is coming right along. Most of the windows and doors are in place, and the siding prep has begun. We are expecting a good crowd on Saturday, and perhaps we can make up a little time.

Work Day #8: “Framing Odds and Ends, and Roofing Prep”

On Saturday April 19 we had another great work day. We finished up a lot of framing and sheathing odds and ends, prepared for roofing, and worked on the boxing (under the eaves for the soffit and fascia). The shingles are staged up on the roof now, and felt (tar paper) is on a portion of the roof. We are running about one workday behind schedule, so we are hoping to have a lot of volunteers come out this Thursday (04/24) to try to do some catching up.

Work Day #6: “Trusses, Sheathing, and Bracing”

Check out these pictures of the trusses going up. Looks like fun, doesn’t it? Another great group of volunteers were out today. Another Habitat Home is going in next door, so many willing hands also helped to level and groom the ground in what will be the crawl space of that home. Thanks everyone for a great day’s work!

Work Day #5: “Second Floor Walls”

The second floor walls are in place! It appears that once again, the milestone for the day was met or exceeded - great job to those that came out today! The roof trusses and sheathing are on site and ready to go for tomorrow, I'm hoping the weather will allow the mass of volunteers to work tomorrow (Saturday). It should be another awesome day regardless! Clearly, our Habitat Construction Leader (Matt) has been busy too as I see many other odds and ends are complete (the slabs, additional brickwork for the utility room, deliveries of materials, etc.). Thanks Matt!

Work Day #4: “Mud City”

The rain last night made the site even more muddy. The weather forecast was bad, and the radar looked even worse. But amazingly enough, the rain held off or was light all day! We worked in the mud and got a lot accomplished. We finished putting down the subfloor on the second floor, sheathed the band around the trusses, built the interior stairs, built walls for the second floor, and set the walls for the utility room. The Stamey’s Barbeque lunch was great, and everyone had a good time!

Work Day #3: "Blitz"

Another tremendous workday today, it was muddy, but a great day to build!!! We had an awesome turnout of volunteers and Habitat had all their crew leaders there as well. I think we managed to meet or exceed the milestone on the schedule by standing all of the first floor walls, setting the floor trusses for the second floor and putting down about a third of the subfloor on the second level. These volunteers hustled all day, and to be able to stand back and see just how much was accomplished at the end of the day is simply amazing. The lunch crew was the best part of everyone's day! Excellent work to all!

Work Day #2: “Catch Up”

Great news everyone, it looks as if we are back on schedule!!! After a dedicated crew spent today on the jobsite - the report is that the first floor system is down and approximately half of the first floor exterior walls are together and ready to stand into place on Friday. Check out the pictures below.

Work Day #1: “Rain, rain, go away!”

Well, the foundation and materials were ready. Volunteers showed up eager to work, then it rained (cats and dogs). After a short devotion in the POD, it was evident that we could not work in this kind of rain. We will have a make up work day on Wednesday, April 2nd (weather permitting).

A few workers waited out most of the rain, and met back at the site at 11am. They managed to get about half of the floor joists in, and a lot of the window and door framing components cut and ready for wall framing. It was muddy and wet, but thankfully the whole day wasn't lost. See pictures below of the foundation, and all the folks who came out to work!
